Residence Hall Check Out

All students are required to  check out of their residence halls by 12pm Sunday, May 5th.  While we do provide lodging until Sunday to help accommodate Commencement and travel plans, the University meal plan officially ends with brunch on Saturday, May 4th (read below for special cafeteria hours).  While you are permitted to stay in the halls through Sunday morning, the cafeteria and Café will close on Saturday, May 4th at 12pm, after which students will be responsible for their own meals. In addition, any students staying past Saturday will be responsible for their own meals. Both the cafeteria and Café will remain closed until summer term begins on Tuesday, May 7th.

Storage Options for Summer Break

Students are responsible for arranging their own storage for summer break. A few options are: Cypress Self Storage: 239-249-3197 or  PODS: 877-770-7637 If you are planning to use PODS for storage, please call AMU Security at 239-280-6289 for instructions on placement of the POD prior to delivery.  Due to limited parking space, PODs will NOT be permitted to be placed in parking lots.  The PODs must  be removed from campus by Tuesday, May 7th.  Thanks for your cooperation.

Cafeteria Hours for Commencement Weekend

Friday, May 3rd: Dinner will be served in the Café (not the cafeteria) during regular hours.

Saturday, May 4th: Cafeteria open for breakfast 8am-12pm. It will close at 12pm Saturday and open again 8am Tuesday.

Tuesday May 7th: Summer term begins. Cafeteria open for breakfast at 8am.

Summer Housing Information

Ave Maria University provides on-campus summer housing for students who meet the on-campus housing qualifications: the student must either be enrolled in summer classes at the University and/or working for a department within the University. To arrange for summer housing, you must complete and submit a Summer Housing Form, which can be picked up in the Student Affairs Office, 2nd floor Student Union.  Only students who complete the form will be allowed to live on campus during the summer.  You must sign up for summer housing by Tuesday, April 30th, 2013 at the latest. You will be required to move to your summer room on Monday, May 6, 2013.  The women will be residing on the first floor of Goretti Hall and the men on the first floor of Sebastian Hall.  Summer meal plans: The meal plan is optional for the summer. Visit the Food Services Office in the cafeteria to make arrangements.  You may purchase meal cards at the Food Services Office for $45 for ten meals.  Please look for a forthcoming email with more information regarding the summer session.

Apply for Orientation Team

Student Life is currently taking applications for the Fall 2013 Orientation Team. The commitment dates are August 26th – September 1st. Training begins at 9am on Monday, August 26th, and team members may move into their residence halls starting Saturday, August 24th. Pick up an application in the Office of Student Life, 1st floor Student Union. Applications are due by Wednesday, May 1st at 5pm. Contact Adam Fuselier with any questions.

End of Semester Airport Shuttles

Shuttles to Ft. Myers airport will be available at the end of finals week for $20 per ride. Bring cash payment to the Student Affairs Office, 2nd floor Student Union, to reserve your spot. Sign up BEFORE 5pm on Wednesday, May 1st. First come, first served. Shuttle schedule is as shown below:

LeaderShape – Leadership Development Training

Saturday, April 13th, 10:30am – 5:30pm in the Ballroom.

End of Semester Dates

Run for Their Lives 5K

All are invited to sign up for the Run for Their Lives 5K this Friday, March 22. The run will begin at 5:00 pm at the Student Union Building. It costs $10 to register, and all proceeds go to a local pregnancy center. You can sign up in the Student Union all this week, or you can sign up prior to the race at the registration table outside the Student Union. All are also invited to attend a showing of October Baby at 7:30 PM in the Lecture Hall after the race, and attend the Abortion Clinic outreach for 40 Days for Life with the group, leaving at 8:00 AM on Saturday, March 23rd from the Megadorm parking lot. Cafeteria Cups

The cafeteria has lost the majority of its cups due to students removing and not returning them. If you have cups from the cafeteria, please return them. Please remind your friends to do the same. Cups are not to leave the Student Union.

Use of Del Webb Community Facilities

Recently, the University has received several complaints from residents of the Del Webb community regarding trespassing at the Del Webb Community facilities, including the Mayflower swimming pool and community center. Students should be aware that any trespassing onto private property in Del Webb or any other residential community in Ave Maria is prohibited and will be referred to local law enforcement. Trespassers may be arrested and will also be subject to university disciplinary sanctions. Please… respect our neighbors’ property. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Title IX and Ave Maria University

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs, including athletic programs or activities that receive federal funding.Title IX states that "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Under Title IX, discrimination on the basis of sex can include sexual harassment, rape, and sexual assault.In accordance with federal law and in collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs, Ave Maria University’s Title IX Coordinator is the designated agent of the University with primary responsibility for overseeing University Title IX compliance efforts. The Title IX Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for those seeking information or wanting to report sexual harassment, sexual assault or sexual misconduct. The Title IX Coordinator is available to meet with students. RA Applications Available

Do you have the desire to serve your fellow peers? If so, consider applying to be an RA! Residence Life is now accepting Resident Assistant Applications for the 2013-2014 academic year. Applications are available at your hall office or in the Office of Student Affairs. Applications will also be available at the ‘Life as an RA’ Q&A Panel, held Wednesday, February 20th, 2013 at 9:00PM in the Gorreti Hall Lobby. Please return completed applications to Julie Cosden (Office 2026 in Student Affairs, 2nd Floor Student Union) by 5pm on Tuesday, March 12th.

Spring Break Airport Suttles

Spring Break is March 2-10. Shuttles will be available to/from Ft. Myers airport before and after the break for $20 per ride. Students must sign up and prepay in the Student Affairs office by Wednesday, February 27th to reserve a spot. Space is limited - first come, first serve.

Lost & Found

The campus Lost and Found is located in the Student Affairs office, 2nd Fl. Student Union. Items that have been submitted include: books, hoodies, flip flops, electronic devices, etc. Items not claimed by the end of the semester will be donated.

Cafeteria Courtesy

All dishes, trays, utensils, and cups in the cafeteria are property of the university and are not to be removed from the cafeteria. Please return all cafeteria items and only use them while in the cafeteria. Let's all help keep our campus clean by picking up abandoned cups and dishes and returning them. Thank you.

End of the Semester Dates

Student residing in the halls are permitted to stay in the halls until Sunday May 5, 2013. All students are required to check out of their residence hall by noon on Sunday, May 5th.  Any exceptions must be approved by Julie Cosden by  April 20, 2013. Note: Exceptions will be granted only for extraordinary reasons.

New Director of Career Services

Student Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Holly Decker as the Director of Career Services. After graduating from Notre Dame in 2009. Holly spent the last 3 years working for the Office of Student Affairs at UND as the Employment Engagement Manager. In this role, Holly assisted employers in recruiting students of every major for both internships and entry-level career opportunities. Holly is excited to serve the students of Ave Maria in all things career related. Holly's office is located on the 2nd floor Student Union, in the Office of Student Affairs.
