  • Attend the Student Activities Fair in the Fall or Spring semester.
  • Join a student organization, club or household for personal and professional development. Click here for a list of student groups on campus.
  • Meet with Student Success Advisor to plan course schedules and majors.
  • Follow Ave Maria and AMUCareerServices on Social Media platforms to stay up to date on events and to build your network.

Sophomore Year

CAREER EXPLORATION GOALS

Discover ways to research career options and begin to focus your efforts and activities.

  • Explore career fields/industries of interest.

·         Speak to professors about careers or graduate school options

 

  • Meet with Career Services to have resume reviewed and to discuss career interests.
  • Finalize your choice of major.
  • Attend the Career Fairs to explore a variety of careers and internship opportunities and enhance your presentation skills.
  • Consider job shadowing or informational interviewing.  Contact Career Services for help pursuing opportunities.
  • Attend professional development seminars. Check the event calendar on the Career Services webpage.

Junior Year

CAREER DECISION GOALS

Decide which industries/internships (or graduate schools) you’d like to pursue.

CHECKLIST

  • Attend the Career Fairs.
  • Pursue an internship that is consistent with your desired field of interest.  Check for internships via College Central.
  • Meet with Career Services to update your resume and discuss internship search strategies.
  • Develop contacts through personal networking, social media, and school contacts.  Refer to Career Services Networking Guide.
  • Explore graduate and professional school options. Learn of application deadlines and exam dates. Refer to Career Services Graduate School, Law School and Medical School guides.

Senior Year

JOB SEARCH GOALS

Seek opportunities that directly align with your career goals and execute your plan of action.

CHECKLIST

  • Attend the Career Fairs.
  • Complete graduate school applications and testing if applicable.
  • Secure references from faculty, staff, or former employers who can attest to your qualifications. Select individuals who know you best and contact them for written references 4 to 6 weeks in advance.
  • Develop lists of potential employers and job opportunities.  Utilize College Central and refer to Career Services Job Search Guide.
  • Participate in mock interviews via Career Services; refer to Career Services Interview Guide.
  • Attend professional development seminars and events hosted by Career Services.
  • Refer to Career Services Networking Guide to generate additional job leads. 
  • Ensure social media and online profiles are “clean” and secure.
